The mission of Productive Learning is to provide its students with a customized online education, exceeding state compliance standards for online learning, while making the virtual environment personal.

About The School

Boy on Laptop

Productive Learning, in partnership with Castle Rock School District, provides a customized online education program for students, which exceeds Washington State Alternative Education requirements and meets the new state accreditation standards for distance learning. Students can accomplish their academic goals, anytime, anywhere through online courses with the guidance and support of administrators and instructors that are state certified and meet Washington’s “Highly Qualified” requirements. Productive Learning is accredited through Northwest Association of Accredited Schools and is considered a public school by the state. Productive Learning’s online program is available to all students in grades K-12, living in the state of Washington, free of cost. Our program offers families a flexible, home-based alternative to the traditional public school education system and encourages students to think autonomously, be original and creative thus developing their capacity to become independent learners.

Why Productive Learning?

Our students vary in their motives for joining our virtual school. Many have found that the traditional brick & mortar setting did not meet their educational needs as they wish to learn at an accelerated pace, or they require personalized instruction where teachers are available more often for one-on-one help. Some students, due to a multiplicity of life circumstances find a traditional school day impossible. Parents who believe in providing a home-based education for their children have the freedom to directly support their children’s education while letting Productive Learning’s certified teachers do what they do best, teach. Regardless of the reasons for online learning, students benefit from the atmosphere that blends flexibility and accountability for enhanced student success. Our goal is to make quality education available to all students by offering on-line courses and instructional support in a flexible and dynamic alternative setting which expand the boundaries of the traditional classroom.

How the Program Works

Students interested in taking classes from Productive Learning may enroll at any time through our web site. Parents (or a legal guardian) must complete a District Transfer Form, Statement of Understanding and a Release of Records, all available when you complete the on-line enrollment in the Admission and Enrollment section on this website. The signed District Transfer Form initiates a transfer of the student from their resident school district, to one of the partner districts of Productive Learning. While students may still have a need to interact with their resident school district, (i.e. for state standardized testing) once enrolled, they officially become a full time student of Productive Learning and our partner school district.

Curriculum & Faculty

The curriculum used by Productive Learning meets Washington State’s Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALR’s) and the academic requirements of the partner districts’ school boards. The curriculum can be customized to meet student needs, including remediation if necessary. Students are immersed in engaging academic work while being supported by Washington State certified teachers/advisors. Teachers assist students in every content area; in addition they serve the student as the main advisor, helping each student successfully navigate their academic path inside of the virtual world of Productive Learning. Students work at their own pace, provided it meets the minimum of the Written Student Learning Plan created by the student’s advisor and teacher at the beginning of each month.

The biggest challenge in online education is making the virtual personal. With Productive Learning, students benefit from a personalized, non-corporate approach to education. Our instructional staff uses a cooperative approach that values every student. In addition to scheduled meeting times, students’ connection to their teacher is merely an e-mail and/or phone call away. Students receive the necessary support and guidance from certified teachers that provide them every opportunity to excel in self-directed and self-paced learning. Parents and partner districts have access to student progress and data. This personalization motivates students to higher levels of success.
